What busy and intense three weeks. Wow. Full of emotions. All kind of emotions.
I just got back from a trip to the US. Still jetlagged. Here I am finally sharing with you what happened not too long ago..
Actually it all began several weeks ago with a phone call. In August I had applied at a Food Blog Award contest. Just for fun. A few weeks later my phone rang. It was already later in the evening, and by that time I thought “Oh well, I guess I didn’t make it.” So you can imagine when I picked up the phone and all I heard was:” You got nominated among the finalists! We are looking forward to seeing you very soon in Berlin!” I thought that was a joke! What? ME?? Really?! And yes. Me. Among so many talented food bloggers. I could not believe it.
The 3 days in Berlin were packed with a very tight and eventful schedule. All of us were simply blown away by the attention to detail that everyone involved had provided. A special thank you, at this point again, to Franz, Mathias and Martina from Connecting Companies! The days were packed with lots of events. Starting of with the surprising welcome goodie basket from the sponsors that the receptionist brought us shortly after checking in. By the time we settled down a little bit, they drove us to Warendorf kitchen studio where some of the sponsors organized several cooking sessions, where we cooked and ate delicious food.
Day two started off being spoiled with the large breakfast buffet at the Hyatt Hotel we were staying at, followed by more food during a city tour with the Gourmet Liner, a bus with a tiny restaurant on board, which is probably the best way you could possibly visit the German capital! More stops at Miele and Kahla followed, incl. a fabulous three course menu prepared for us by Damian D’Silva, a chef who flew in from Singapore specifically for the Food Blog Award, followed by food photography workshops with photographers and stylists. The day ended with even more food while visiting the Berlin Food Week. We surely didn’t lack any meals that day ;) Filled with lots of impressions our day ended in the super comfy bed of our 5 star treat, getting ready for day 3, the night of the awards.
The final day was the day where all the editors and chief editors from BurdaLife arrived, as well as all the jury members, sponsors, and so on. So many people in one spot! And they were all there for us! We suddenly turned from food bloggers to feeling like little “VIPs” :) Now imagine the award night at the hotel..
Category after category we were called on stage. Needless to say how nervous I was when it was my turn. I was standing on stage with two so talented bloggers – Sara from Birds Like Cake and Claudia and Arne from Food with a View. That alone was gratifying. And not only. Going home with the second prize was like a win itself. Of course I’d have loved to join the other winners exploring Singapore coming January, but having had the chance to experience all of that was more than enough to be happy about. That night was packed with emotional moments, tears and joy! The delicious and elegant dinner buffet that followed the awards was just the cherry on the cake.
At this point a BIG thank you to Connecting Companies, the jury, BurdaLife, all the sponsors, and of course to all the wonderful bloggers (check them out! so worth it!) that were there. There is something really special about meeting other food bloggers like me who have especially one thing in common: the passion for food, photography and all the dedication that comes with it. It was amazing to hear the different stories behind every single one of them.
Here is a really nice video that summarizes our days in Berlin.
I am already looking forward to seeing all the 2nd and 3rd prize winners again during our upcoming trip to the Mosel wine region! See you there guys!
